These works, all made in 2013, discuss ideas of themes of both identity and sexuality. Exploring societal understandings of identity, shaped through the imposition of cultural binaries—male / female, masculine / feminine, citizen / immigrant, healthy / obese— the work resists these ideas. I contend an individual is not limited by binaries, and instead focus on the fluidity of identity. Developing disruptive tensions within my art—the subject matter depicted through watercolor—I discuss identity while dismantling their constrictive binaries.
