When putting labels on my body, it’s impossible not to use the word obese. There are plenty of words that I embrace so much more than obese. It even sounds wrong. For the longest time I refused to love my body, to embrace the skin I was in. This series reclaims that skin, my body. It explores ideas of the abject. In January 2017, I underwent gastric sleeve surgery. This project has not only become an exploration of comfort and exposure but also transformation.
